The Audition Process

Do I have to prepare anything for the audition?

No. We will review two short snippets of the piece that will be used for audition purposes.

Do I have to audition if I have performed Too Hot To Handel in the past?

Yes. Our voices change over time, and the audition process ensures that you are properly assessed to sing at a range that will be comfortable for you.

Do I need to be able to sight read music in order to audition?

Not necessarily. During the audition process, most everyone has shown proficiency in learning the music either through sight reading or by ear. Regardless of your learning style, if you are accepted into this year's choir, the more time you spend outside of rehearsal learning the music, the more likely you will be able to gain confidence with the piece during rehearsal.

How does the audition process work?

We will start with warm ups and then learn short portions of the piece for each voice section. The auditions will be conducted in small groups that will break away based on audition group number. There will be a break at approximately the halfway portion of our time.

Do I need to eat or bring my own food and drink to the audition?

Not necessarily. We will have some light snacks and drinks that we will serve halfway through. If you have specific dietary needs, you can bring your own food. Some people will bring their own water bottles to fill as well.

When will I find out if I passed auditions?

Typically it will take a couple of days to review all of the notes from the audition process. However, our goal is to let people know within the week of the first audition. We will mention this on the night of the audition.
